Icy Cave Mimelet Sky Island

Mimelet is a platform game released 2010. The player helps a character named Mimelet reach the goal flag at the end of each level. The game also makes use of jumping on enemies in order to receive special abilities.

On November 29, 2021, Neutronized announced a port of the game to mobile with a teaser trailer featuring a cutscene with Japanese narration.[1] The game will be released in January 2022.

Levels[]

There are twenty levels in Mimelet. In the earlier levels, enemies and their abilities that they grant Mimelet are introduced.

Level 1[]

This level introduces the player to the controls and jumping on enemies to use their powers. It introduces the leaf power along with a bulb enemy.

Video

Level 2[]

The bulb enemy is seen again and Mimelet needs to jump on it in order to cross a small bridge made of grass blocks. This level also introduces the fire power, which allows Mimelet to destroy pink blocks. A jump onto a higher platform will eventually lead the player to the flag block. The player can also choose to inherit the leaf power in order to reach some fruit on higher ground.

Video

Level 3[]

Level 3 introduces the player to a new variation of a leaf power enemy, which can attack Mimelet. By choosing to jump on this enemy, the player can access the fruit at the top platform made of grass blocks. This is not necessary, as two other bulb enemies walk around in their own small areas of platform. Only the last two grass blocks are needed to reach the other side of the ground.

A fire enemy is now seen as Mimelet makes their way onto the highest platform. The player can have Mimelet inherit the fire power in order to reach some fruit enclosed in an area with pink block walls. If not, Mimelet can simply jump up some platforms to reach the flag block.

Video

Level 4[]

The water enemy is introduced at the start of the level, which allows Mimelet the ability to swim in water. Afterwards, Mimelet must quickly bypass two erupting leaf enemies in order to reach the goal flag in this short level.

Video

Level 5[]

This level combines a few of the enemies previously introduced in the game along with some puzzle and skill. First, Mimelet should jump onto the octopus in order to swim across large pool of water. Then they should get the leaf power in order to jump onto some grass blocks and reach the higher platform. Then, being careful not to acquire the fire power, Mimelet needs to cross a long bridge of pink blocks and reach the flag block. This will prevent them from destroying the bridge and plummeting into the water below.

Video

Level 6[]

Mimelet is greeted by an erupting leaf enemy, which they should jump on in order to cross over the water by jumping onto grass blocks. After making their way across the broken path, Mimelet can then jump on the water enemy below to swim across a large pool of water on their right. Then, jumping onto smaller platforms, Mimelet can then make their way up to the goal flag, which will be located at the top ground, to the left.

Video

Level 7[]

The stone enemy is introduced into the game. Mimelet must jump on it in order to destroy the stone blocks below. Then, while walking to the right, a fire enemy should be encountered, and Mimelet can jump on it to inherit the fire power. With it, Mimelet should go back in the same direction they came from, destroying the pink blocks and making it all the way back to their starting position. Afterwards, without jumping on the stone enemy again, the player should have Mimelet jump on the water enemy, which is located to the right of a wall of pink blocks.

Once the water power is received, Mimelet can make their way to a pool of water on the player's right, swim across it and jump onto the flag block.

Video

Level 8[]

Mimelet should first jump onto the stone enemy on the highest platform seen where they are to get the stone power. If the player wants to get the fruit on the stone blocks, Mimelet should do it first before getting the stone ability. After jumping on the stone platform to break the blocks, Mimelet can now begin traveling to the right.

Along the way, there are certain gaps made up of stone blocks. The player has to be careful not to let Mimelet jump on the wrong ones, or they will fall into the water, forcing the player to restart. Upon seeing the first fire enemy, Mimelet should jump on it, and destroy any pink blocks seen in the level. This will allow Mimelet to travel on the platforms without breaking any of the stone blocks above water. Once all pink blocks are destroyed, Mimelet can take back the stone power, and break the stone blocks seen to the very right.

A water enemy is then seen. Mimelet can jump on this and swim across all water to the left to reach the goal flag.

Video

Level 9[]

The air power is introduced in level 9, allowing Mimelet to jump higher than their normal jump allows them to. The player can take this power to reach the more elevated areas of the level. Three stone enemies are soon encountered, and Mimelet should not take their abilities and jump up to reach the fire enemy instead. This will help destroy the pink blocks. Once they have been destroyed, the player can destroy the stone blocks using the stone power.

Down below, Mimelet should jump on the cloud on the left. Then, walking to the right, the player can reach the platforms with a fire enemy on them to inherit their powers. With them, the pink blocks near the air enemy can be destroyed, allowing Mimelet to take the leaf power and travel back towards the fire enemies. Then, jumping up the platforms making stairs, the player can reach the grass blocks, and ultimately, the goal block.

Video

Level 10[]

To break the barrier of pink blocks farthest to the player's right, Mimelet must first walk past the erupting plant bulb and jump on one of the clouds to obtain the air power. Then they can jump to the higher platforms and jump on the erupting plant bulb at the very top of the level. Now Mimelet should follow the platforms of grass blocks until they encounter a fire enemy, which the player should have them jump on.

The pink blocks to the left of the player can now be destroyed with Mimelet's fire power. If they make it all the way down, they can get the air power and go back the way they came when destroying the pink blocks. The goal flag is located on a high platform.

Video

Level 11[]

Level 11 introduces players to the thunder bolt, granting the thunder power. With it, Mimelet can flow through a small line of yellow blocks. Then, they should find a fire enemy on top of some stone blocks. By jumping on it to get the fire power, Mimelet will be able to destroy the pink blocks and get the stone power necessary for clearing the maze of yellow blocks.

After making the journey back down, Mimelet will find another lightning bolt in an enclosed area. If they jump on this, they can flow through the path of yellow blocks once hidden by the stone blocks. The line of yellow blocks closest to the ground will take Mimelet to the goal flag.

Level 12[]

Travelling to the far right, Mimelet should encounter two fire enemies past some pink blocks. They should jump on one of them to clear the path to the yellow blocks and then jump on the lightning spark next to the yellow blocks.

After flowing through the yellow blocks, the player will see an octopus to their right. Travel past the octopus until the cloud is reached, then obtain the air power and follow the grey blocks to reach the plant bulb. Optionally, the octopus can first be jumped on to collect some fruit on the other side of the water.

Once the highest platform is reached, Mimelet should get the leaf power and make their way across the grass blocks to reach the walking rock for the stone power. With it, the player can break the stone blocks, jump on the lightning spark, flow through the newly cleared path of yellow blocks and reach the goal flag.

Level 13[]

There is a pathway of yellow blocks leading to lower ground with clouds. In order to get down there, Mimelet should jump up on several elevated platforms to get the thunder power from the lightning spark, then go down the yellow blocks.

This level focuses mostly on using clouds to jump over long areas of water not achievable by the air power alone. After making the way out of the underground area, Mimelet can then get the fire power to break pink blocks and make their way to the plant bulb, since the path leading up to the goal flag is made up of disjointed grass blocks.

Video

Level 14[]

Mimelet should first jump onto the plant bulb just below them in order to walk across a broken path of grass blocks. Then, landing on the large platform seen below, Mimelet can get the water power and swim to the right. A fire enemy is seen pacing between two grey blocks. Mimelet should jump on this to absorb the fire power. Then, the long journey should be made back left until the erupting plant bulb is seen. The pink blocks should be destroyed in order to obtain the air power, which Mimelet can use to reach the once unreachable goal flag at the top of the level.

Video

Level 15[]

Many clouds are seen in groups for this level. The player can use this to their advantage and jump on them to reach high platforms for fruit. If the player chooses not to do this, they can simply start making the journey to the right until the lightning spark is seen. The path of stone blocks must first be cleared by jumping on the walking rocks seen once Mimelet flows through the yellow blocks. Afterwards, the player should make the same journey up through the yellow blocks to get the fire enemy, and break the pink blocks. Once both paths are cleared, Mimelet should jump on the cloud and obtain the water power, which was first seen when the player started the level. If the player keeps going to their right, the goal flag will soon be reached.

Video

Level 16[]

In this level, the player has to be careful not to jump on a lightning spark too early, or they could go down the wrong yellow blocks which leads to water. Instead, the player should wait until the last lightning spark to obtain the thunder power and flow through the last seen set of yellow blocks. This will cause Mimelet to land on the cloud, giving them the air power. From there, they can make their way over the bodies of water up to the top platforms to jump on the fire enemy and obtain the fire power. Then, a group of pink blocks can be smashed.

From there, Mimelet must go back down for the air power and make their way all the way back to jump on some high platforms and get the stone power. This will allow the player to smash a stone block covering up some yellow blocks leading to the goal flag.

Video

Level 17[]

Mimelet is greeted by many erupting plant bulbs at the start of this level. They only need to jump on one in order to obtain the leaf power and travel on the uppermost path of grass blocks. Once the lightning spark at the very end is obtained, Mimelet then should jump on another erupting plant bulb to climb up on the grass blocks path once more. This time, a fire enemy will be seen at the end of the made up path. The fire power should be obtained so that Mimelet can break the pink blocks blocking the goal flag.

Video
Mimelet_Level_17

Level 18[]

First, Mimelet must jump on the octopus to be able to swim across the water. Next, up a narrow passageway, the lightning spark must be jumped on and Mimelet should jump into the set of yellow blocks to their left. Then, after obtaining the air power, Mimelet should make the same route up to get the fire power and destroy the pink blocks covering up the yellow blocks to their right. Afterwards, they should get the thunder power once more to flow through the cleared yellow blocks and reach the goal flag.

Video
Mimelet_Level_18

Level 19[]

Upon walking to the player's right, Mimelet will come across two enemies: a lightning spark and a cloud. Jumping on the lightning spark, they should continue walking right and flow through the passing yellow blocks. From there, the player should have them jump on one of the fire enemies to get the fire power. This way, the player can break the pink blocks and get the stone power to destroy the remaining stone blocks and fall back down to where they started.

Now, the player can get the air power to reach the highest platforms and re-take the fire power. Then, going back down, they can break the large pink block leading to the goal flag.

Video

Level 20[]

The last level of the game begins with Mimelet getting the leaf power to jump up to the top on grass blocks. Next, the fire power should be taken and used to break the pink blocks and jump on the octopus. From there, Mimelet should swim across the pool of water until plant bulbs are encountered.

Like before, Mimelet should get the leaf power to once again make their way to the top of the grass blocks, but this time get the stone power. The player has to be careful where they fall on the high ledge, as they may risk getting the fire power or losing a life, where a fire enemy is. The best practice is to wait until the fire enemy reaches the grey block, then fall from the ledge as far left as possible.

With the stone power at hand, Mimelet can now break the barrier of stone blocks and fall off the platform to the player's right. From there, the player should make the same journey up on the same grass blocks to get the fire power. This allows them to destroy the barrier of pink blocks and jump on the lightning spark. Once the thunder power is obtained, Mimelet should flow through the set of four yellow blocks, where they will be taken to an enclosed area with the evil Mimelet.

The evil Mimelet will teleport to different areas of the place, shooting dark orbs at Mimelet. Successfully jumping on it three times will complete the game.

Powers[]

Mimelet with no power

By jumping on enemies, Mimelet's sprite will change colour and a symbol will appear over their head to indicate the type of power the player has obtained. Mimelet can only hold one power at a time - if the player jumps on an enemy of a different type than the power they currently possess, the new power will override the former. Some powers may affect Mimelet's movement in addition to their abilities.

At the start of each level, Mimelet possesses no powers. They can only be in this state when beginning the stage and cannot revert back to the default sprite in the middle of the level after obtaining a power.

Boss[]

The evil Mimelet appears at the end of level 20, the final level, and serves as the only boss battle of the game. Before the boss battle begins, Mimelet is enclosed in an area with four platforms elevated at different levels. A sign is seen warning the player to avoid the orbs.

After appearing on one of the platforms through teleportation, the evil Mimelet will fire a dark orb towards Mimelet's direction. This is generated from the eye at the top of its head and thrust towards Mimelet with his hands. Once the orb is fired, he will then disappear. If the orb hits the player, they will lose a life, or die if they are down to one hit.

This will continue for the duration of the game, until Mimelet defeats the boss. Usually, the evil Mimelet will try to teleport to areas that are farthest from Mimelet's current position.

Strategy[]

To defeat the evil Mimelet, the player must have Mimelet jump on the boss' head. This must be done before the evil Mimelet can shoot a dark orb, since it disappears promptly after doing so. Since he tries to teleport to areas farthest away from Mimelet, it is best for the player to remain on the middle platforms. That way, they can be better prepared for his next position.

After successfully jumping on the evil Mimelet's head three times, it will disappear and the simulated sound of an explosion can be heard. The end screen will come up, automatically submitting the player's score.

Interactive objects[]

There are a few objects that Mimelet can interact with, most of which are dependant on certain abilities.

  • Fruit - Found scattered throughout levels; increases the player's score by:
    • 10 points (Cherry cherry)
    • 20 points (Orange orange)
    • 40 points (Pear pear)
    • 80 points (Grape grape)
    • 170 points (Watermelon watermelon)
  • Water - Fills some gaps throughout certain areas of levels, kills Mimelet instantly unless they have the water power.
  • Blocks - Presented as obstacles throughout levels. The player can interact with each type of block with only one type of power.
    • Grass block Grass blocks - Remain non-solid unless Mimelet possesses the leaf power, which allows Mimelet to jump on top and walk on them.
    • Pink block Pink blocks - Prevent Mimelet from passing unless they possess the fire power, which allows Mimelet to destroy them on contact.
    • Brown block Brown blocks - Prevent Mimelet from passing unless they possess the stone power, which allows Mimelet to destroy the blocks by jumping or falling on top of them.
    • Yellow block Yellow blocks - Prevent Mimelet from passing unless they possess the thunder power, which allows Mimelet to flow through them.

Scoring[]

Players are scored by the amount of fruit caught in each of the levels as well as the time left on the time bonus clock seen to the bottom right. The scores are automatically submitted once Mimelet dies or the player completes the game.
