Levels[]

Dyna Boy has fifteen levels.

Level 1[]

Level 1 introduces precious minerals, ladders, pots, boxes, and exists. The player is taught the basic controls and, after climbing two ladders and pushing a box, the player will reach the exit.

Video

Level 2[]

Level 2 introduces rocks and TNT. To complete the level the player should go left and collect some TNT, place a stick near the rocks to destroy them, go forward and blow up two more patches of rocks, and then walk into the exit.

Video

Level 3[]

Level 3 introduces spiked turtles and keys. To complete the level the player should go up a ladder to collect some TNT, position the TNT so that is kills the spiked turtle, and then blow up the nearby section of rocks. Then the player should go forward and climb up two more ladders, kill or avoid two spiked turtles, grab the key located a short distance away from the area with the turtles, and blow up the rocks beneath the key. Finally the player should go back to where the two ladders were, open the locked door and walk into the exit.

Level 4[]

Level 4 introduces connecters and bats. To complete the level the player should pick up some TNT, throw it across a gap to blow up the bottom of a connecter, walk across the connecter, avoid or kill two bats, and blow up the base of another connecter. Then the player should destroy a section of rocks, go downwards by the gap they have made, destroy rocks and the spiked turtles while collecting TNT when necessary, and walk into the exit.

Level 5[]

Level 5 introduces batteries. To complete the level that player should climb up the first ladder they find, collect the battery, climb back down the ladder, jump over two gaps, climb up another ladder and push a box off the platform connected to the ladder, and push the box so that a higher platform can be reached. Then the player should avoid three spiked turtles, collect some TNT and a battery (if needed), blow up the section with rocks on the floor, fall through the gap, and then go right and touch the exit.

Level 6[]

Level 6 introduces TNT crates and frogs. To complete the level the player should climb down a ladder, go up another ladder to collect some TNT, place the TNT near the TNT crate on the ground, wait for the explosion to happen, climb back up the ladder, jump to the newly made opening, and collect a battery. Then the player should walk back and drop down the gap, go into the area with darkness, blow up some rocks, retrieve the key, and go back to where the area where the battery was and unlock the door. Finally the player should either blow up or avoid the frogs and then walk into the exit.

Level 7[]

Level 7 introduces diamonds in block form, spikes. To complete the level the player should jump across the gaps with spikes while avoiding two spiked turtles, grabs some TNT, blow up the diamonds in block form, and then proceed to blow up the rock and spiked turtles while collecting TNT. Then the player should collect more TNT (if needed), push one TNT crate in front of a diamond, blow up the TNT crate, and repeat this method with the remaining crates doing one crate at a time to prevent diamonds from still remaining. Finally the player should blow up the spikes in the next area and walk into the exit.

A tip for getting through the area with the rocks is to start blowing up the rocks on the far right. First blow up the first layer of two rocks then the next two. Since be this time the player will have no TNT left (as two were used on the rocks and one to blow up the TNT crate) the player should go to get more. Once the player returns they should either throw or place the TNT on the lowest rock and avoid the blast and then place it on the next and also avoid the blast. By grabbing the TNT while the spiked turtle's back is turned it is possible to place a stick of TNT to kill it. Then the player should blow up the rock nearest to the let wall and then use the same method for the first spiked turtle to blow up the second. Then the player will be left with simply blowing up the remain rocks.

Level 8[]

To complete level 8 the player should collect some TNT, place it over a patch of rocks, and collect the battery beneath the rocks. Then the player should climb the nearby ladder, push the small boxes over the side, jump onto the nearby platform to collect the key, and then drop to the ground. Then the player should push the small boxes beneath the area with rocks in the ceiling, place a stick of TNT, wait for it to explode, grab the key, run to the left where the tombstone is, blow up the ground above the yellow mineral (it is a key), and grab the key. Finally the player should run back near the start of the level, touch the locked doors to open them, and run into the exit which will complete the level.

Video

Level 9[]

To complete the level the player should collect some TNT, blow up the rocks while collecting TNT (it is best to start with the three rocks on the far left and then the rocks on the right), collect more TNT if need, kill or avoid the frogs, and blow up the base of the connecter. Then the player should walk across the connecter, climb a ladder, collect more TNT, avoid or kill the bat, grab the key, and then run back to the platform above the ladder. Finally the player should blow up the base of the second connecter, open the locked door, and walk into the exit.

A tip for getting past the rocks is to start with blowing up the first three near the left wall. Then fall through the gap and collect more TNT and place one near the rock on the right, then once that is destroyed place the TNT near the next block on the far right, and finally place the final TNT stick on top of the rock on the far right near the passage to the next part of the level. A tip for killing the bat in level 9 is to place a stick of TNT and push it near where the bat is but not to near the it will chase the miner. The TNT will explode and kill the bat on the ceiling.

Video

Level 10[]

To complete level 10 the player should grab some TNT, either destroy or avoid the two nearby bats, blow up a section of rock, and climb up a ladder. Then the player should run to the far end of the above platform, blow up the rock section there, fall through the shaft, collect more TNT if needed, go right, and either destroy or avoid the spiked turtles. Then the player should push the two TNT crates that are farthest away from the rock section out of the way, blow up the rock section, push the TNT crates over to the area with the diamonds in block form, and blow up the TNT crates once they are over the diamonds. Finally the player simply need to drop down the shaft and blow up the long area of spikes to reach the exit.

A trick for destroying the bats is two grab some TNT and then place some beneath the diamond it is above. The bat will then catch sight of the miner and by running away it will return back and get destroyed by the TNT. For destroying the spiked turtles it is possible to wedge the one closest to the boxes with a smaller box. By destroying that spiked turtle then the player can push the shell against the other to keep it in one area to destroy it.

Level 15[]

In level 15 the final boss, the giant spider, is encountered. To defeat it the player simply needs to place three sticks of TNT near it that will cause it to explode near the giant spider. After defeating the giant spider a key will come out and allow the player to open the locked door, complete the level, and see the ending of Dyna Boy.

Dyna Boy ending

The ending depicts the miner standing on a grassy patch of land looking out into the distance with a stick of TNT near the miner. The sky is blue with a few white clouds and some hill in the distance. Words below the image say "Good Job! You found the way out." and they are written in all caps.

Poki version[]

Dyna Boy added a 2 Player mode to its Poki version on September 15, 2023. This version was accompanied with a launch trailer on the Neutronized YouTube channel. These two modes can be selected on the menu screen.

1 Player[]

The 1 Player mode retains the same fifteen levels in the Flash version, with some changes to the level design that do not affect its overall structure. These changes include the following:

  • The player can now choose to watch an ad at the start of level 3 onwards to add six pieces of TNT to their inventory. This ad option goes away once the player collects TNT, but returns if their TNT count goes to 0.
  • Levels no longer display a completion screen upon going through the exit - instead, it immediately transitions to the next level. An ad sometimes plays in between levels.
  • If the player dies, they can revive within the level by watching an ad.
  • Endless pits in the Flash version have been replaced with shallower pits with spikes.
  • Many patches of soil that were present in levels of the Flash version are now just the regular dark-grey stone platforms.
  • Passages involving hidden areas with gems or other minerals have mostly been removed.
  • Some TNT crates that were located at the top of wooden platforms at the start of levels have been moved to the ground.
  • A tutorial sign was added telling the player how to remove spikes with TNT.
  • In level 12, the player originally had to race to blow up the spiked turtle at the end before it fell through a thin passage under the exit. In the Poki version, this passage has been removed and the turtle will now turn and walk in the opposite direction towards the player once it falls through the end of the top tunnel.

2 Player[]

The 2 Player mode is exclusive to the Poki version and supports local multiplayer only. It is a versus mode where the goal is to survive until the other player loses all their lives. Crates of TNT are positioned throughout the arenas and respawn after being collected. Pink pots also continually spawn into the level and can be broken for a temporary powerup. Enemies will eventually fall into the arena and can cause either player to lose health.

The player can choose between four different playable characters, although only three will be selectable per player at a time as the game will not allow both players to be the same character. There are three arenas to play in.

Glitches[]

Explosion glitch[]

Explosion glitch in Dyna Boy

In level 10 the player is given a large amount of TNT, twelve in total, and also after the player has destroyed the block for diamonds in the level there is a large gap. If the player stands on the left side and begins to place TNT by placing the spacebar and then pushes the TNT into the gap, a large explosion will result causing smoke to rise up from the gap and the screen to shake violently. By moving into the gap or collecting more TNT, the glitch will stop. The explanation for this glitch is the fact that near the side of the gap, at the bottom, is a box of TNT and when the sticks of TNT came down it ignited the box and caused a huge explosion.

Enemies[]

All enemies will harm the miner on contact and can be destroyed by TNT.

  • Bats - Hang from the ceiling and will chase the player up to a certain point and then return to the ceiling.
  • Spiked turtles - Move in one direction and will walk the other way once they hit a object. Their shell will still remain even after they have been killed and the shell can be used as a platform.
  • Frogs - Will randomly jump around and can push objects.
  • Giant spider - A boss that attacks by dropping on top of the miner. Three hits from TNT will kill it.

Hazards[]

  • Spikes - Will harm the miner upon contact. They can be destroyed with TNT.

Interactive objects[]

  • Ladders - Can be climbed to reach higher areas. They can be destroyed with TNT.
  • Pots - Will sometimes reveal precious minerals when they are shattered.
  • Connecters - Once the base of the connecter is broken by TNT, it will fall over and create a bridge if it is not shorter then the gap it falls over.
  • Boxes - Can be pushed and can be used as platforms. Sometimes objects are hidden inside.
  • Rocks - Will prevent the miner from progressing further in the level. They can be blown up by TNT.
  • Diamonds - There are two types of diamonds in which the smaller is a point granting object while the larger is very similar to rocks and can only be destroyed by TNT crates.
  • Exits - Allow the player to go to the next level.
  • TNT crates - Once TNT has been set off near them the TNT crate will explode. If other crates are placed near each other and then one explodes, it will set off a chain reaction.

Pickups[]

  • Precious minerals - Point granting objects that are either buried in the soil or hidden inside objects. Touching them will grant points.
  • Batteries - Will activate the miner's light and make the darkness disappear from around the miner.
  • TNT - Once it has been ignited by pressing the space bar it will explode and destroy soil, rocks, some interactive objects, enemies, and the miner if they are caught in the blast. TNT can be obtained by touching crates filled with TNT.
  • Keys - Will open locked doors.
